Week 1 : Trees, as inspired by 4 Artists Paint 1 Tree
I’ve been using my 4x5 view camera more and more and I love it. It’s an entirely different beast than any digital camera.
For this weeks assignment I went to Griffith Park and photographed (with my husband/assistant Mike Ambs) a group of sycamore trees - they have the most amazing bark texture and color.
This shot is especially exciting for me because in order to focus on such details I had to extend the camera almost completely off the rails, which required me to hold the focusing plate in place while Mike helped me to trigger the shutter and such. You’ll notice the strange plane of focus if you look closely.
I’m really excited about this new project that Erica, Casey and Jami just started - I love collaboration projects and I can’t wait to see this start to gain more traction.

Capturing the essence of nature can be very challenging. djnamelis often makes it look easy, especially here. This is a gorgeous photograph and one that graphic designers could have a field day remixing.
