show people how awesome you are
msg:
Earlier today a friend mentioned that she told a startup founder that she wanted to help them out with a variety of different things at their company and hadnt heard back yet.
My advice was to just start doing them.
If she really want to be involved with the company then she should not wait for them.
Most often startups are overwhelmed with getting things off the ground. Its hard for them to take time out of their schedule to incorporate new things especially if they feel its going to be a time drain or distraction from their current focus.
In order to ‘compete’ with that framework you should just start creating value with out their permission. It shows that you can be self reliant and execute on your own.
So If you think there is an app out there thats poorly design that you want to help out just start mocking up a better version. If you think a startup could partner with a variety of people they arent, create a doc outlining your plan.
Do whatever it takes to show and not just tell people how awesome you are.

The truth is more often seen than heard. Use this to your advantage with a bias toward doing rather than telling.
